Norsk Billedhoggerforening har i samarbeid med Bodø2024 gleden av å annonsere de deltagende kunstnerne i KUNSTKANTEN; et nytt og unikt visningsrom i Bodø. I september 2024 avdukes fem nye skulpturer på kunstpunkter langs den nye kyststien, ved flyplassen og i sentrum, som vil gå i dialog med en by og et samfunn i endring. Kunstnerne er:

ALSTADLØKKA
Benedict Beldam (f. 1994) er en konseptuell kunstner basert i Oslo, som arbeider med performance, installasjon, tekst, tegning og lyd, med en forankring i den kvenske kulturen. Beldam er utdannet ved Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo, og har stilt ut ved blant annet Kunsthaus KuLe, Berlin (2016), Ringebu Prestegård (2021), Kunstnernes Hus (2022), Kvenbiennalen (2023) og Tegnetriennalen (2023).

TOFTVEIEN
Marianne Bredesen (f. 1982) bor og arbeider på Nesodden, og underviser ved Prosjektskolen Kunstskole i Oslo. Hennes hovedfelt er installasjon, skulptur og lydarbeid. Hun har sin utdannelse fra Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo, og har stilt ut ved blant annet Fondazione Prada, Venezia (2018), Atelier Güell, Barcelona (2019), Telemark Kunstsenter (2021) og Store Gilhus Gård (2022).

STOKKVIKA
Åsil Bøthun (f. 1971) er utdannet ved Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo. Hun er professor i skulptur og installasjon, og bor og arbeider i Bergen som prodekan ved Fakultet for Kunst, Musikk og Design, Universitetet i Bergen. I sine skulpturer tematiserer hun ofte transformasjon, spor og avtrykk. Hun har stilt ut ved blant annet Vigelandmuseet (2018), KODE, Bergen(2018), Kunstnerforbundet (2020), Galleri Soft (2021) og 1st International Contemporary Material Art Biennale, Qingdao, Kina (2022).

LUFTHAVNEN
Gunnar H. Gundersen (f. 1953) har sin utdannelse fra Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo og Høgskolen i Akershus, og er ansatt som professor ved Oslo Metropolitan University, Institutt for produktdesign. Gundersen arbeider i hovedsak med skulpturer som kombinerer mekaniske installasjoner og naturfenomener. Han har utført en rekke utsmykningsprosjekter ved blant annet skoler i Trondheim, Nesodden, Hvam og Porsgrunn, samt NTNU i Trondheim og Universitetet i Sørøst-Norge på Hønefoss.

MOLOROTA
Kerstin Hintz (f. 1977) bor og arbeider i Matadepera i Spania. Hun har sin utdannelse fra Muthesius Kunsthochschule i Kiel, og arbeider blant annet med installasjoner og skulpturer i keramikk. Hun har stilt ut ved blant annet School of Art and Design, Terrassa (2016-2020), Museu de la Terrissa de Quart (2020), Fundation Cuixart, Palafrugell (2022) og Inund'art Festival Girona (2023).

KUNSTKANTEN er en kuratert utendørs visningsarena langs kyststien som nå bygges i Bodø, en sti som i første omgang vil danne en sammenhengende forbindelse mellom Bodøsjøen og Mørkvedbukta. Stien gjør det mulig for folk å gå eller sykle langs kysten og oppleve ulike naturområder, landskap og nærområder. Visningasarenaen vil i første omgang kurateres som fem skulpturpunkter som viser fem verk over en periode på to år.

KUNSTKANTEN er finansiert av Bodø2024. Den første utstillingsperioden på to år kurateres og administreres av Norsk Billedhoggerforening. Prosjektet gjennomføres som en konkurranse hvor fem verk blir tildelt en produksjonsstøtte på 350.000, samt utstillingsvederlag på 50.000 for to år. Bodø kommune er eier av prosjektet.

BAKGRUNN
Bodø har i syv tiår delt plass med Luftforsvarsbase Bodø. Byen har utviklet seg langs kanten av landet, med havet på den ene siden og fjellene på den andre. Byen er stadig i bevegelse, og det neste tiåret vil det skje store endringer. Når militærflyplassen legges ned vil en ny bydel, og fremtidens Bodø, utvikles. KUNSTKANTEN går langs historiske og samfunnsmessige linjer; fra prehistoriske minner, gjennom etableringen av byen, til gjenreising etter andre verdenskrig og nyere historie som «flybyen» Bodø. KUNSTKANTEN gir kunstnere mulighet til å delta i dialogen om byutvikling, samfunnsutvikling og identitet.

The Norwegian Sculptors Association, in collaboration with Bodø2024, is pleased to announce the participating artists in KUNSTKANTEN; a new and unique exhibition space in Bodø. In September 2024, five new sculptures will be unveiled at art points along the new coastal path, near the airport, and in the city center, engaging in a dialogue with a city and a society undergoing transformation. The artists are:

Benedict Beldam (b. 1994) is a conceptual artist based in Oslo, working with performance, installation, text, drawing, and sound, rooted in the Kväni culture. Beldam graduated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and has exhibited at venues including Kunsthaus KuLe, Berlin (2016), Ringebu Prestegård (2021), Kunstnernes Hus (2022), Kvenbiennalen (2023), and Tegnetriennalen (2023).

Åsil Bøthun (b. 1971) holds a degree from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She is a professor of sculpture and installation, living and working in Bergen as the vice dean at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen. Her sculptures often explore themes of transformation, traces, and imprints. She has exhibited at venues including The Vigeland Museum (2018), KODE, Bergen (2018), Kunstnerforbundet (2020), Galleri Soft (2021), and 1st International Contemporary Material Art Biennale, Qingdao, China (2022).

LUFTHAVNEN
Gunnar H. Gundersen (b. 1953) received his education from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University. He is employed as a professor at the Department of Product Design, Oslo Metropolitan University. Gundersen primarily works with sculptures that combine mechanical installations and natural phenomena. He has completed numerous public art projects, including installations at schools in Trondheim, Nesodden, Hvam, and Porsgrunn, as well as at NTNU in Trondheim and the University of Southeastern Norway in Hønefoss.

MOLOROTA
Kerstin Hintz (b. 1977) lives and works in Matadepera, Spain. She graduated from Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel and works with installations and sculptures in ceramics. KUNSTKANTEN is conceived as a curated outdoor exhibition arena situated along the coastal path now being built in Bodø – a path that will initially connect the area called Bodøsjøen with the bay Mørkvedbukta. The path makes it possible for people to walk or bicycle along the coast and experience diverse natural environments, landscapes and local areas. For the first two-year period starting in 2024, the exhibition arena will be curated as five ‘sculpture points’, each presenting one work.

Bodø has for 70 years shared space with the military air base Bodø Main Air Station. The city has developed along the shoreline, with the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. Bodø is constantly on the move, and there will be big changes in the next decade. When the military air base closes, a new part of the city, and the Bodø of the future, will be developed. KUNSTKANTEN extends along historical and social lines: from prehistoric memories, through the city’s establishment, to reconstruction after the Second World War and recent times as ‘aeroplane city’ Bodø. KUNSTKANTEN gives artists an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about urban development, social development and identity.
KUNSTKANTEN is a unique investment in art in public space. Fresh funds have been made available in order for art to play a key role in the city’s history of change.

KUNSTKANTEN is a newly-established outdoor exhibition arena financed by Bodø2024. The first exhibition period lasts two years and is curated and administered by the Norwegian Sculptors Society. The project is carried out as a competition. Five works will be awarded financial support, each one receiving 350,000 NOK to cover production costs, plus an exhibition honorarium for the two years: a total of 50,000 NOK. Bodø Municipality is the owner of the KUNSTKANTEN project as a whole.
