ESBEN WEILE KJÆR
Hypochondria of the Heart
23.05 – 21.06.2026
The exhibition features a new body of work developed by Esben during his residency at The Art Residency in Pietrasanta, Italy in 2025. The sculptures are part of a new series in which mass-produced objects – such as antique toys, souvenirs, jewellery, and keychains – are pressed into wet clay, then 3D scanned, enlarged, and cast in bronze, transforming small, everyday items into monumental forms.
Esben Weile Kjær (b. 1992) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2022. In his performances, installations and sculptures, he examines identity among his own generation and explores the role of popular culture and technology in determining our experience of community and freedom. Esben Weile Kjær has had several solo shows, including at Kunstforeningen GL STRAND and at Copenhagen Contemporary, and has shown his works internationally at Museum Tinguely in Basel, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Mumok in Vienna and Berghain in Berlin.
